Having achieved multiple jury verdicts in excess of one million dollars and numerous large settlements, including several multi-million dollar results, Steve was ranked # 4 among the “winningest New York law firms for 2011” by Verdict Search. He has been a New York Law Journal “Top Verdict” and “Top Settlement” recipient in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. His results have been published in Verdict Search, the New York Law Journal and elsewhere.
Before starting his firm in 2010, Steve was the senior trial attorney for the City of New York in Brooklyn. At the Office of the Corporation Counsel, Steve defended the mayoral agencies in numerous jury trials in State Supreme Court. Trying dozens of the biggest and most complex cases in the county, he consistently obtained excellent results and won awards for his courtroom performance. These cases included police excessive force, false arrest, and federal civil rights claims, wrongful death, labor law, injured municipal worker claims, negligent school supervision, negligent security, premises liability and other personal injury matters.
Prior to the Law Department, Steve was the managing trial attorney at one of the New York City’s largest plaintiffs’ personal injury firms, where he tried cases and litigated a wide range of legal actions, including labor law, negligent security, premises liability, municipal liability, auto collisions and aviation disaster.
In addition to his legal work, Steve believes in the importance of community and charitable activities. He regularly volunteers his time to improve the lives and educational opportunities of disadvantaged kids in Brooklyn. Raised and educated in New York City, Steve believes that being a local lawyer means giving back, on a volunteer basis, to the communities and neighborhoods where he lives and works.
Steve coordinates the Speakers’ Bureau program at the Brooklyn High School for Leadership and Community Service, a “transfer” school for at-risk teenagers in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. The program recruits a diverse range of successful and dynamic speakers to visit the school and talk with students about their careers, life journeys, obstacles overcome and lessons learned. The school, known as “Brooklyn Leadership” is part of Brooklyn Community Services (BCS), a community service organization where Steve serves on the Board of Directors and several committees.
Steve also serves on the Advisory Board of Eye to Eye, a national mentoring program for children and young adults with learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders. In 2013, Steve produced a continuing education class for human resource professionals about learning disabilities and workplace discrimination. In addition, Steve is a former trustee at The Churchill School and Center, a Manhattan K-12 school for children with language-based learning disabilities.
Steve has chaired several Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses at the New York City Bar including, “Anatomy of a Trial: Common Mistakes to Avoid in a Civil Jury Trial” and “E-filing, E-discovery and E-evidence: Practice, Law & Technology”. While a government trial lawyer, Steve taught a CLE course about the role of state and federal medical privacy laws in litigation and at trial.
Steve serves as a Vice President of the Jewish Lawyers Guild and a member of the Board of Directors of the Brooklyn Volunteer Lawyers Project. He is also a member of the following associations:
Steve is admitted to practice law in the courts of the State of New York and in the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. A former political operative, Steve is a graduate of Hobart College and New York Law School.
